Tel Arad

The first human settlements in Arad were founded around 4000 BC. Canaanites had a village here between 3000 BC – 2650 BC, and in the 11th century BC Israelites built a town in Arad. The city is mentioned in an inscription of Pharaoh Shishak in Karnak, Egypt, in a list of cities conquered by the Egyptian army in 925 BC. Ancient Arad was destroyed in the wars of eighth century AD, and has remained uninhabited ever since. The once-walled area of ancient Arad is approximately 0.1 kmē.
