Avdat

Ruins of the Nabatean city Avdat are located along the ancient Spice Route between Petra and Gaza. Avdat was an important city for Nabatean Arabs ca. 100 BC – 100 AD, with a walled area approximately 0.1 kmē. Between 100 – 600 AD the city was controlled by Romans, and periodically by Christians. Avdat was finally destroyed by the Islamic Arab army in the 7th century, and has not been rebuilt ever since. The surrounding area in all directions is nearly untouched desert.
