Metzadah

King Herod built a fortress in 31 BC on this flat plateau with an area of 0.2 kmē, surrounded by steep and high cliffs on all sides. The most legendary event in the history of Metzadah is the mass-suicide of its 1,000 Jewish defenders in 73 AD, when the Roman army was about to break the defense and enter the fortress, having besieged the fortress for several months.
