Shivtah

Shivtah was founded by Nabatean Arabs in the first century BC, and it may have served travellers on the Spice Route from Petra to the Mediterranean coast. Between the 4th and 7th centuries AD the town was settled by Byzantine Christians, possibly serving pilgrims who were travelling to Santa Catarina monastery in Sinai. The city was destroyed during the wars of the 7th century. UNESCO has listed Shivtah as a world heritage site.
