Tel Dan The earliest human settlement in Tel Dan was founded in 4500 BC, and the urban center thrived for a few centuries. After this the site was abandoned for a thousand years, until Canaanites founded a city here and called it with the name Laish. The Jewish tribe of Dan conquered the city in 1200 BC, and called it with the name Dan. The city remained continuously settled until the fourth century AD, when it was finally abandoned during the Roman period. More information:
